"Black Velvet" is a song written by Canadian songwriters David Tyson and Christopher Ward, and originally recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Alannah Myles in 1989. It is a tribute to Elvis Presley, and the lyrics describe the singer's admiration for his "black velvet" voice, his moves, and his style, as well as the impact he had on music and culture. The song became Myles' biggest hit and won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance in 1991. Its popularity has led to it being covered by numerous artists and used in various films, TV shows, and commercials.
